The Rising Sun

The Canadian arrived in Winnipeg, and as we crossed The Red River, the conductor cited “Its pretty low this time of year,  see… the snow is encrusting the sandbar.”  “Does the Red River go north to the HudsonBay? ” I asked

Oh no, it goes to Lake Winnipeg and then two trubutaries fill into the Hudson Bay..Nelson for sure…”

I was just very aware of this place, that was the hub of  merging river navigation that has such a watershed history, what with the fur trade (The Hudson Bay Co. (English) and the Northwestern Co.(French)TBC
